How to enable vsftpd log in Linux server

By default, the vsftpd activities should log to xferlog file. If it does not works or you want them to record into a dedicated file, you may follow be steps to enable vsftpd log in Linux server:

  1.  Create a new log file named vsftpd.log
    # touch /var/log/vsftpd.log
    

     

  2.  Edit vsftpd config file
    # nano /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

  3. Add the below coding into the config file
    dual_log_enable=YES
    log_ftp_protocol=YES
    xferlog_enable=YES
    syslog_enable=NO
    vsftpd_log_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log

     

  4.  Save the config file and restart vsftpd service
    # service vsftpd restart 

     

  5.  To view the log file, use the below command
    # nano /var/log/vsftpd.log
